A small replica of a brass buckle found in Dorset. According to Dress Accessories this type of buckle had the greatest period of longevity of any in the medieval period. The earliest examples were being thrown away as early as 1150 and as late as 1400. They are called "ornate outside edge" buckles, and frequently have projections, lobes, ridges or ears. It was cast from an original in a private collection. This buckle will fit a strap ranging from 1/2" to 15/16" wide.
